Where To Start
Deciding how your categories will be displayed to customers is one of the hardest, and one of the most important decisions to make regarding your website. Nearly any visitor that 'browses' jewelry on a site will use categories to navigate through products, so it is critical that these are set up in a concise but descriptive manner.
Every store has a unique showcase layout, and similarly, every site will have a different category structure. So while it may help to use other popular sites as examples, ultimately this will depend on the products you have available to display. The first step in creating your categories is to familiarize yourself with the source of your products. If your website is integrated with The Edge, you will want to consider the layout of your Edge categories. If your website utilizes Premium Vendors, you will want to consider the jewelry types they provide.
A Basic Setup
Categories can be a 'parent' (root) or 'child' (sub) category, and can be visible or invisible, but each must have a unique name and url. It is important to note that any product in a sub-category, will also be visible in the parent category, and it is possible to have products fall under multiple categories/sub-categories.
